Reclaim Your Monday

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

Let’s face it. Monday gets a bad reputation for being the worst day of the week; It’s understandable. The weekend is over, and it seems like Monday only comes around to kill your joy. FALSE.

To reclaim your Monday, you must first acknowledge that it’s no different than any other day of

the week. Mondays aren’t a punishment, in fact, how Monday goes sets the tone for the week. I’m going to tell you how I get the most out of my Monday and how you can too.

I first start each day with some positive affirmations.

It can start as early as when I open my eyes, or I may start saying them on my way to work. If you don’t know what an affirmation is, no sweat, here are some positive ones for the day ahead >>

Affirmations are phrases that you repeat that embody or embrace what we want or want to become. Positive thinking creates self-improvement and can transform our thoughts and attitudes.

On my way to work, I typically pick up some sort of “treat”. This could be a coffee from Starbucks, a Slurpee from 7/11 or a Bang from Wawa. I only get my treat on Monday to reinforce that it’s an actual treat. If you’re a heavy coffee drinker, then maybe coffee is not your treat, so you can choose something else to give you that extra little boost – a candy bar, a bag of chips, or a bagel.

When I arrive at work, the first thing I do is plan my to-do list for the whole week. I just keep adding and adding until there is nothing left to do. No matter how minor the task may seem, I add it. There’s something so satisfying about checking items off the list. The following days of the week, I rewrite my list on a separate page, removing what I’ve done and adding new things that might have come up.

I tackle as many items on my list as I can on Monday to make for an easier work week.

Keep in mind that Monday is the start of your week and it really does emphasize how the remainder of your week is going to go. Ignore the negative Nancys who response is “It’s a Monday” when she’s late, or forgets to do a task, or breaks the copier… Monday’s don’t have to be the catchall response for when something goes awry.

You control your Monday, and let it be a great day!
