Ten Years in a Blink

As I woke up this morning, I was reminded how fast ten years can go by. Without realizing it, we went from 2012 to 2022. For some, those specific years are insignificant. What is significant is what can happen in your life in a period of ten years.

2012 - 2022

In 2012, my family and I were preparing for my husband to get out of the army. I met my husband only a month before he left for basic training. While enlisted, we had three children, he deployed to war several times, and we moved a few times. It was quite a journey.

I went to school for cosmetology shortly after I graduated high school. This gave me a career I could do anywhere. It also sparked a curiosity in me. I wanted to learn more about the science of hair and the effects it has on us. That led me down a path where I ended up in 2022.

As my husband exited the army, we began a journey of entrepreneurship. We did not want to answer to anyone again. We started a business building and servicing fish tanks. This was nice but very labor-intensive. Unfortunately, my mom developed cancer, and we had to travel to where she lived, two hours away, to ensure she could get to her treatments. Eventually, we moved there. We started another business. This time we tried network marketing. We learned a lot and made some money in the process. However, we decided that wasn’t for us either.

My passion and curiosity never went away. It is now 2013, and we just had our fifth daughter. My mother has passed away from cancer, and I want more than ever to understand how the chemicals and products we use in our hair either help or hurt us. I don’t want to see myself, my daughters, or anyone else I love go through what my mom went through if it can be prevented.

I began reading the ingredients on everything. I wanted to know if there were any connections between what we take in our bodies and what we put on our bodies. I began researching who makes the things we use. It became obvious that many of the products I used were made by people with very different hair and for the wrong reasons. The products were created for monetary gain with very little regard for health. This is when I decided to create my haircare line.

I created a product that would be not only good for the look but also promote good health. Through many years of researching and formulating, in 2021, I launched my haircare line. With the help of my daughters and my husband, we produced a product that I felt my mom could have used safely.

Where Will You Be in Ten Years?

Here we are now, ten years later, and a lot has happened. Many of you reading this may have thought back over the last ten years and looked at what has happened in your life. Maybe you have not reached the place you want to be in life. Maybe you have been working on something for the whole ten years. Maybe you have completely forgotten what has happened in the last ten years. No matter what it is, know it goes by in the blink of an eye. Those ten years are gone, but you have another ten years in front of you. What will you do with it? Are you fulfilling your life dreams? Have you taken the vacation you dreamed of your whole life? Are you in that magical relationship? I encourage you to stop for a moment and ask yourself what it is you really want and then go for it. When you look up ten years will have passed, and you will either be happy you lived fulfilled or wish you made the leap.
